Oklahoma Services | ASPCA Equine Transition and Adoption Center

Do you, or does someone you know, need help caring for a horse or other equine? The ASPCA Equine Transition and Adoption Center (ETAC) pilot program offers horse owners across Oklahoma access to cost-free veterinary care, compassionate euthanasia if needed, or a safe place to relinquish a horse for rehoming.

  • If you live in Oklahoma, call (405) 423-1461 to learn more about the services offered.
  • If you’re outside Oklahoma, please email [email protected]; we’ll do our best to connect you to local resources or transport your horse to a nearby rehoming partner.

We’re here to help.

After you call, a mobile team, including a veterinarian, will contact you to schedule a visit to your home or facility to assess your horse and discuss your needs. If you simply need temporary help, we’ll provide medical treatment and support you in keeping your horse at home. Occasionally, euthanasia is the best option, which we offer for horses needing a humane and compassionate end to their life.

If you would like to relinquish your horse, he or she will go to our leased facility in El Reno, Oklahoma, to be assessed by our training and behavior specialist. In some cases, horses who will likely be more easily adopted will move to one of our surrounding partner shelters. In other cases, horses stay at our facility where our team provides training, behavioral modification, medical care and marketing support as we work to find him or her a loving family. To date, we’ve helped 400 horses in Oklahoma and supported many owners in keeping their horses safe at home.

If you have questions about our program or the services we offer, you’re welcome to reach out to us at any time by emailing [email protected]. We’re here to help and look forward to meeting you and your horse.
